From Saturday July 29 till Monday July 31, 2017 the War Heritage Institute participates in the commemoration of the battle of Passchendaele at the municipality of Zonnebeke. The WHI presents impressive First World War objects, such as King Albert I’s authentic uniform worn as Colonel-in-Chief of the 5th Dragoon Guards. 

Within the Passchendaele Memorial Park the WHI, as representative of Defence, is an important actor, along with e.g. the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the National Army Museum, the Royal British Legion, the Western Front Association and the British Armed Forces...

The War Heritage Institute honours Mrs Simone Veil, who passed away on June 30, 2017. As an Auschwitz survivor and a human rights defender she led a very special life. As a young girl she was interned at Auschwitz in March 1944. One year later, in May 1945, she returned to France. She worked hard to get ahead in life. As a civil servant at the Ministry of Justice, as Minister of Health and as the first president of the European parliament she devoted quite some energy to the defence of human rights. The WHI stand in Brussels Park tells the story of the Great War through several subjects: www.beCarto14-18.be, an app about Belgian military heritage, an exhibition on the first world conflict, the War Graves Service and the Defence Demining Service.

Moreover, come and admire original collection items and replicas linked to the Great War in the Flemish trenches or at the front in imperial Russia.

Plenty of things to discover at booth 22 of the War Heritage Institute in Brussels Park. Plenty of things to learn about the First World War, the War Graves Service and the Defence Demining Service. Numerous Great War collection pieces will be on display. You’ll be able to see how the Belgian troops lived in the trenches of Flanders or on the Eastern front in imperial Russia.
